A 32-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested after a string of robberies over an 18 hour period during which time a pizzeria employee was stabbed trying to stop the theft of a cash register.
Police said three alleged thefts took place between 2:40 a.m. and 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday, including a Tim Horton's at 897 Upper Wellington, a Hasty Market at 210 Mohawk Rd. E and the Alfredo's Pizzeria at 931 Fennell Ave. E.
In all three incidents the man brandished a large kitchen knife and fled on foot.
In the third incident the man wore black socks over his hands and a scarf to hide his identity, police said.
Police said the man was arrested after the pizzeria employee chased him out of the store when the suspect allegedly stole the cash register.
The suspect was tackled outside of the store during which time he allegedly stabbed the employee.
A second employee called 911 and Hamilton police's BEAR unit arrived to make the arrest.
The stabbing victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The suspect is charged with four counts of robbery, three counts of disguise with intent and three counts of breach of probation.
He was denied bail, police said.
