A man who police say crashed his getaway bicycle after a mid-day bank robbery in the city's east end has been arrested.

Officers carried out a search warrant in an apartment on Ottawa Street North and arrested a 42-year-old man.

Police allege that on Tuesday, a man walked into the Scotiabank at 1255 Barton St. E, said he had a gun and demanded money. He left the bank, jumped on a bicycle and rode off, police say.

A second call then came in to police a short time later that a man matching the suspect description from the robbery had collided with a yellow parking pole at a nearby restaurant and dropped cash at the scene.

A 42-year-old man is charged with robbery, and is being held for bail hearing.

The bike was also recovered, police say.
