Nuevo-flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook will play a Hamilton show next month as part of the Hamilton Music Awards, organizers announced Thursday.

Cook is a Juno winner who has been long-lauded for his nylon-string, guitar-playing talents. He'll be performing at the Dofasco Centre for the Arts on May 23. Tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. at www.theatreaquarius.org and at the Dofasco Centre for the Arts box office.

Awards show organizer Jean-Paul Gauthier also announced that producer Bob Doidge, music journalist Graham Rockingham and late guitarist Brian Griffith will receive lifetime achievement awards at the Hamilton Music Awards on May 24.

Doidge bought the famed Grant Avenue Studio from Daniel Lanois in 1985, and since then has worked with icons like Gordon Lightfoot, U2 and Bob Dylan.

Rockingham is an Ontario Newspaper Award winner, and has been named media person of the year fives times at the HMA's.

Griffith was the nephew of the iconic Jackie Washington, but became a prolific guitarist in his own right, playing with the likes of Willie Nelson, Daniel Lanois and Harrison Kennedy on top of a career as a session guitarist.

He died last year at the age of 60.

The winners of the Hamilton Music awards will be announced May 24 during an awards show at the Dofasco Centre for the Arts. The gala caps off the four-day festival and conference.
