The city has ended a week-long cold alert for Hamilton as temperatures rise to single digits below zero. 

The city's medical officer of health cancelled the cold alert Sunday morning. The alert had been in place since Jan. 4. 

Environment Canada's forecast calls for a high of –3 C on Sunday and an overnight low of –4 C. It will be mainly cloudy, but expect snow to begin late this evening, amounting to 5 centimetres. 

The city issues a cold alert when current or anticipated weather conditions are at or below –15 C or –20 C with wind chill.
