A woman killed in a house fire Saturday night leaves her husband and three children to mourn her loss.
Tammy Smith and her two pet dogs died in the house fire at 1854 Main Street East, which caused $200,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is still unknown, said Hamilton Fire Dept. spokesman Claudio Mostacci. The Ontario Fire Marshal is onsite Monday, continuing to investigate.
Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire just before 7 p.m. on Saturday. The fire was "well involved" when firefighters arrived. They entered the burning house and retrieved Smith from inside, beginning medical treatment. Paramedics transported her to Hamilton General Hospital, where she died.
Smith's children are 15, 19 and 21, according to a comment on Smith's sister-in-law Marnie Smith's Facebook page. Marnie Smith posted after the fire that "there has been an outpouring of people wanting to help with donations of food, clothing etc."
Friends have set up a fundraising page for the family.
"If anyone is interested in helping this family donations are greatly appreciated," Marnie Smith wrote. "Sadly they lost not only their mother /wife/daughter/sister/friend they lost their home to a fire and everything in it. There's three children and a husband with nothing."
