A little gold ring briefly stole the show amid the election night celebrations at Fred Eisenberger's campaign headquarters.

Diane Eisenberger, the new mayor-elect's wife, wore a wedding ring that belonged Fred's late mother, Theadora, on her pinky finger on Monday.

Theadora Eisenberger was 92 when she passed away this September, at a busy part of the campaign. Diane told CBC Hamilton that was the hardest part of the election for her husband.

While the ring was a nice tribute, it was the date inscribed inside that makes it special, Diane told the room of Eisenberger backers.

27-10-'46.

It was the date of Theadora's wedding to her husband, Jack. Exactly 68 years ago.

The Eisenbergers had never noticed the parallel before, as they had thought Jack and Theadora were married in June of 1949, when they were wed in a Catholic church.

But that wasn't so. Apparently, following the Second World War, the pair married in Amsterdam to qualify for housing.

Appropriately, they were married at a city hall.
