Spring, we hardly knew ye. Below 0 C temperatures, freezing rain, ice pellets and snow are heading to Hamilton Tuesday.
The low-pressure system that brought heavy rain to some parts of Ontario and 20 C temperatures to others over the weekend will bring full on winter weather to Hamilton before it leaves the province Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada says.
The agency issued a special weather statement Monday morning warning of inclement weather heading our way.
"It will be a very warm day for some regions today, particularly over Eastern Ontario where temperatures may soar into the mid twenties," the statement reads. "However, showers will spread across Southern Ontario reaching Eastern Ontario later this afternoon. The arrival of the showers will bring an end to the warm spell."
Today's high of 19 C is set to drop to 14 C as rain showers begin early Monday afternoon.
Current forecasts suggest that rain will start turning to snow from near Georgian Bay to Lake St Clair overnight with the transition zone reaching Eastern Ontario later Tuesday morning. "During this transition, there is a risk of a few hours of freezing rain or ice pellets," Environment Canada says.
A few centimetres of snowfall is likely by the time it tapers off later on Tuesday. Temperatures will be sharply colder over the course of the day with afternoon temperatures expected to be below freezing.
Wednesday is expected to be sunny, but the forecast low is –9 C with a high of 3 C.
Mercifully, temperatures are forecastto get back up into double digits by Thursday.
