Two tributes to the late Nelson Mandela, Christmas carolling and a chance to polish off your holiday shopping. That's what's going on in Hamilton this weekend.
Dec. 13:
The Big Sing:
Fieldcote Memorial Park and Museum presents the annual Big Sing at the Ancaster Old Town Hall (310 Wilson St.). Sing along with the Kaleidoscope Singers in the hall festively-decorated by the Ancaster Horticultural Society. Tickets for purchase at the door, $8 per person or $15 for a family. 7-9 p.m.
Dec. 14
Steward Memorial's Nelson Mandela Tribute
The Stewart Memorial Church, along with the city of Hamilton, is holding a memorial service for the late Nelson Mandela in council chambers between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The service will feature several speakers including McMaster University President and South African Patrick Deane and Mayor Bob Bratina.
Minister emeritus Rev. George Horton and United Church Minister Abiel Khalema, who is from South Africa, will deliver the service. A book of condolences for the Mandela family will be available to sign until the end of the service.
OPP Food Drive for Good Shepherd
Volunteers from the Ontario Provincial Police's 407 detachment will be out Saturday and Sunday to collect food for the Good Shepherd Centres in Hamilton.
The items in greatest need are canned soups, canned vegetables and fruit, canned fish and meats, peanut butter, jams, powdered milk, juice, toothpaste, baby food and diapers.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas
Westfield Heritage Village will be transformed for into a Christmas wonderland this Saturday and Sunday nights. Walk around the Village by candlelight and enjoy music, food and a visit by Father Christmas. The gift shop will be open for Christmas shopping. 5-9 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
Dec. 15
Ubuntu: An African Celebration of Madiba's Legacy in Hamilton
Drumming and singing in celebration of Madiba. Join 15 African communities in Hamilton for a ceremony in tribute of Nelson Mandela's life, on the day he is laid to rest.
The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Gandhi statue at City Hall and continues to the Philpott Memorial Church (84 York Blvd.).
