A Niagara Regional Police Officer from Hamilton has been arrested and charged with assault.
On Wednesday, Hamilton police arrested a Niagara Police constable for an alleged incident that took place on Aug. 11 in Hamilton. He was charged with two counts of assault.
Hamilton police spokesperson Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning told CBC Hamilton that she could not release much information on the case, but did say it was not a domestic incident.
She referred calls to Niagara Regional Police, who did not add anything to their original press release.
"I don't have any information because it's not our investigation," said Rich Gadreau, media officer for Niagara Police. "Since it's our member and our officer, we just put it out there because of transparency."
The officer has been a member of Niagara Regional Police for 14 years. He was released from custody and is set to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse on Sept. 17.
The constable has been suspended from duty with pay.
