Another professional performance on the road, this time in Hamilton. Travis Lulay, playing 24 hours after a death in the family, threw for 343 yards and two scores, increasing his consecutive game streak for tossing into the end zone to 26, second best-ever in the CFL behind Sam 'The Rifle" Etcheverry (34). Andrew Harris had two TDs and is running superbly. B.C.'s offence was on the field for almost 40 minutes. Next job is to win this week and sew up home advantage and the bye into the West final.

What a bunch of nice guys they have in Calgary, trying to hand a game to the terrible Blue Bombers when they needed it so badly themselves. Yo, Stallions ... Christmas isn't for more than 2 months. How big a gift? Winnipeg had one of the worst 1st quarters seen in years, and they were still in the game when the 4th started. Four fumbles and a pick are not what you're looking for this late in the year. Teams tend to play down to lesser opponents, so let's chalk it up to that. And worry, because next in are the awful Tiger-Cats.

S.J. Green is out. Brian Bratton is out. Brandon Whittaker is out. Now it looks like Brandon London is gone for a while. And Eric Deslauriers. And Victor Anderson. Anthony Calvillo pointed out in the room after beating Toronto that his club keeps coming up with offensive performers who can plug in well. This is a lot of plugs. Despite all those injuries, the Larks have pretty much wrapped up home field advantage for the East final and, perhaps more importantly, a week off to heal. There's no doubt this is not a banner year for QB Anthony Calvillo and the offence, but against Toronto they did enough to gain the two points while the defence was crushing the Argos.

See what can happen when your people are secure in their jobs? Kerry Joseph has been anointed QB, and he's doing well. Hugh Charles has been told the running back job is his, and he's responded beautifully. Must be confusing for the ego to play for head coach Kavis Reed. One minute he's in your face yelling at you for being an idiot, the next he's giving you a big hug and sharing the love. Kind of like being a teenager with a kindly Regimental Sergeant Major for a dad. Working fine right now, thanks. Eskies need probably one win of last 3 to get the crossover, but third in the West is also in sight.
Overall record:8-7

Note to self: Stop saying nice things about the Riders until the season is over. Just in case they do something dumb again like tossing away a winning streak that put them back in contention for a home playoff game, losing to a team that can now pass them for third place. There are a number of former Riders on the Eskimos, but are they really reading the playbook? Darian Durant was not sharp, completing 17 passes for 204 yards, a pair of scores and two picks. Playing the East now (Montreal and Toronto) before finishing with B.C. Keep an eye on those Eskimos.

Same story as last week. No QB Ricky Ray, no chance. Bless Jarious Jackson for his effort, but his scatter-gun arm just can't move the offence at all, especially without a running game to help. RB Chad Kackert's ribs were too sore to play this week and he might be ready to go. Or they could sit him out for again just to be sure. And no, Cory Boyd is not coming back. On the positive side, the defence rebounded from a rough outing to play well against Montreal. As anyone can tell you, though, a good D can only prevent you from losing, not give you enough points to win.

What a sad way to say goodbye to the old rusty bones of Ivor Wynne Stadium. On the same day the city showed off the fabulous drawings for the new park (due to open in July of 2015 for the Pan Am Games) the Cats pretty much sealed missing the playoffs with a pathetic outing vs. B.C. Yes, that's a good team, but the Kitties' vaunted offence was only on the field for about 20 minutes of the 60. The D is now at 481 points against. Awful. Only real path into the post-season now is to win the last 3 games, hope Edmonton only tastes victory once more or Argos collapse. Bitter.

As the Bombers continue to crawl through the desert that has been this 2012 season, they mark their way with pretty mirages such as the one from last week that saw the club look good against Montreal. This week ... more heat, more cold nights, more stings from the tails of defensive scorpions. QB Joey "I'm a gunslinger" Elliott shot himself four times with picks, including three into the end zone against Calgary. Any one of those could have turned the game around if completed. There's talk Winnipeg may allow a concussed Buck Pierce to play next week. For the love of whatever deity you believe in, why?
