A 19-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the back Sunday evening, according to Hamilton Police.

Hamilton paramedics responded to a reported stabbing just after 10:30 p.m. near the Cash For Gold storefront on the corner of James St. North and King Street East, Hamilton EMS duty officer Ben Ross said.

A 35-year-old Hamilton man was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated assault, forcible confinement and breach of probation, Hamilton Police Staff Sgt. Jack Langhorn said.

The victim was treated at hospital and released, he said. 

Police detectives took witness statements and are still investigating, Langhorn said.

"Any motive or circumstance that led up to [the stabbing], I'm not privy to," he said.
