Eighty-five performers, 500 plush toys, 90,000 candies. ArcelorMittal Dofasco's annual family holiday gathering came back for another round on Sunday, bigger and sweeter.
Now in its 78th year, the annual tradition brings together the steelmaker's employees, retirees and their family members. Organizers estimated that some 10,000 people attended the party, including 3,000 kids.
Throwing a massive party for 10,000 people is no simple feat. The company said more than 200 volunteers helped out with the event, held at the F.H. Sherman Recreation and Learning Centre in Stoney Creek. And crew have been setting up in the arenas since Monday.
This year's gathering also features some timely additions, including Elsa and Anna from Disney's mega-popular film Frozen, as well as Pachi the porcupine, mascot for the upcoming Pan Am Games in 2015.
