Thursday marks the last day of the Ontario election campaign and the first day of the FIFA World Cup, two races that you'll likely hear about for the next little while.

After a month-long campaign that has taken on an increasingly nasty tone, polls point to a tight two-way race between the Liberals and the Progressive Conservatives.

Polls open from 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. today. Here's a voter's tool kit with what you need to know as you head to the polls.

If you are still unsure of who to vote for, there's a last-minute help: take a quick quiz at Vote Compass to compare your views on key issues with the positions of the political parties.

Some 8,000 kilometres away, the 2014 FIFA World Cup begins on election day. The opening ceremony starts at 2 p.m., followed by the first match — between host country Brazil and Croatia – at 4 p.m.

Environment Canada has ended its special weather statement for Hamilton and much of the region, following a night of rain and thunderstorm. Today is mainly cloudy. However, you can still expect 40 per cent chance of shower and risk of a thunderstorm.
