Hamilton Daystarter: Everything you need to know Wednesday

Good morning Hamilton. The sun is shining, the birds are singing – Spring is finally here. Expect a nice warm one out there once today gets going.

GO Transit isn't reporting any service slowdowns on routes coming to and from Hamilton this morning.

Here are the traffic issues police are reporting in and around the Hamilton area on Wednesday:

• A vehicle collision on Glancaster Road in Ancaster. 7:40 a.m.

Today's high is in the double digits, people! Expect sunny skies and temperatures up to 11 C today.

Environment Canada is calling for winds becoming west 20 km/h late this afternoon. The UV index is 6 or high. Tonight will be a low of –3 C with a few clouds.

Thursday's high is forecasted at 15 C.

The city's veterans committee has voted to spend two months conferring with Legion branches and veteran service clubs on how to be more sustainable. It's a story Royal Canadian Legion branches and other veterans organizations have been telling for years. Aging buildings. Dwindling membership. Trouble finding new members and making ends meet.

The city wants to help local branches put together a survival plan, but it's an idea that isn't getting a warm reception from federal Legion officials. 

At tonight's city council meeting, councillors will discuss Coun. Merulla's motion that that explores the institution of a "cooling off period" as part of the City of Hamilton's employment agreements. It would limit the ability of former senior level staff from working for organizations that deal with the city on certain matters if the former staff member had significant dealings during the last year of service with the city.
