McMaster University's decision to suspend the Redsuits, a campus spirit organization made up of engineering students, over a songbook containing vulgar chants has sparked a flurry of reaction on social media.

University officials announced on Thursday that the school is suspending the group's activities pending an investigation into the cheers the book contains, which include mentions of rape, murder, incest and bestiality as well as various misogynistic, homophobic and anti-Semitic references.

Scores of comments on Twitter slammed the songbook and lauded the university for its decision. Others said McMaster's steps were too strong and that the content of the chants shouldn't be taken so seriously.
