A man wanted for a series of sexual assaults in Hamilton has been arrested, police say.

The man had been approaching women and slapping their backsides or touching their genitals before riding off on a bike for over a week. He had assaulted close to a dozen women in that period in central Hamilton and the east end, Police say.

On Thursday afternoon, police arrested a 25-year-old Hamilton man in connection with the assaults. He was charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of breach of probation.

He's being held in custody with his bail opposed.

Police are continuing to investigate. Witnesses are being asked to call police at 905-540-5050 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

"There is no guaranteed way to prevent a sexual assault," police said in a news release. "Sharing the details of this assault is intended to provide the community information, and people are encouraged to trust their instincts."
