A Hamilton man has been charged with luring a child on the internet and possession of child pornography.

The 49-year-old man allegedly communicated with young girls in the Philippines, Hamilton police say.

"This individual was offering teen girls money in exchange for sex," Hamilton Police Services said in a media release Thursday. "Further investigation by officers in Hamilton revealed that this same individual was also downloading and sharing images of child pornography on the internet."

Police launched the investigation after getting information from the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre in Ottawa. Members of the Internet Child Exploitation Unit and members of the Technological Crime Unit executed a search warrant on a Barlake Avenue home.

The suspect was arrested at work, police say.

Police continue their forensic examination of the computers and devices seized at the home.
