Work is set to begin Wednesday on a waterfront redevelopment project that will affect the walkway from Guise Street to Williams Cafe on Pier 7.
Sun-Canadian Pipe Line will be relocating its underground infrastructure, beginning this week with the "existing petroleum refine products pipeline," said city spokeswoman Ann Lamanes. That phase is expected to take about four weeks.
There will be an alternative walkway for users of the trail.
The dream of further developing Hamilton's waterfront became reality in 2013. The city owns the waterfront lands, but has been leasing them to the Hamilton Port Authority. The authority agreed to terminate the lease in 2013.
Relocating the Sun-Canadian and Imperial Oil pipelines running along the waterfront were two chief issues identified in redeveloping the waterfront.
