Happy St. Patrick's Day!
In the mid-1800s, a sizable portion of the inhabitants of Hamilton were Irish, and the vast majority of them were Catholic. And so when the second bishop of the local diocese purchased a swampy plot of land to build a church, the community decided it should be named after the Irish St. Patrick. The 13th-century Gothic structure is the second oldest church in town, designed by Irish architect Joseph C. Connolly.
The popular connotation of the day has more to do with green-dyed beer and less with going to church, for most people at least. But the parish invites those so inclined to Mass at 12:15 p.m., or to take a virtual tour of their beautiful building online.

- There's a vehicle blocking the left lane of the Toronto-bound QEW, and emergency crews are on scene. 6:46 a.m.
- Hamilton Police aren't reporting any collisions on local roads.

Overnight, expect those winds to continue up to 50 km/h with a low of –8 C.
In case you missed it, here are some tips to avoid flooding as all that snow melts.
