A driver is dead after his vehicle collided Saturday into a building on Hempstead Drive near Nebo Road on the Mountain in Hamilton, police said. The cause of the collision "appears to be medical" and the driver was declared dead on scene, Hamilton Police staff Sgt. Rob Hersics said.

There was one person working in the building, Hersics said. The building does not appear to be affected by the crash, he said. 

The business neighbourhood is quite quiet on Saturdays so, even though the driver crossed Hempstead when he was losing control, there was "no traffic interrupted," Hersics said. 

Police are working to confirm the driver's identity.
