A 52-year-old Hamilton man faces assault and impaired driving charges after allegedly trying to drive through a movie shoot, striking two parking signs and biting the officer who tried to arrest him. Police say they found a crack pipe in his possession.
Hamilton Police spokesperson Catherine Martin said additional police officers were called into a movie shoot on Summers Lane, the small road in front of the Hamilton Convention Centre parking garage, when a man drove the wrong way through a movie shoot with the "usual signs of impairment."
Attempting to rectify the situation, the man tried turning around, hitting two parking signs in the process, Martin said, when the officer on site approached to attempt an arrest.
The man then tried, but failed, to restart the sedan and later bit the officer while he was still in the vehicle. More police were called in to make an arrest. The man was found to be in breach of probation, and also had a crack pipe in his possession, police say.
The man will be in a Hamilton courtroom Thursday morning to face charges of assault police, impaired driving and three counts of breach of probation.
