The face of local politics will change dramatically Monday when Hamilton elects a new mayor, at least four new members of city council and more than half of a new public school board.
Brad Clark, Fred Eisenberger and Brian McHattie are front runners for the mayor's chair. All have promised efforts toward new jobs, new efforts to attract new industry and new plans for the city's transit system.
Current mayor Bob Bratina isn't running again, opting instead to pursue the federal Liberal nomination in Hamilton East-Stoney Creek.
There will also be new councillors in Wards 1, 3, 9 and 13, where incumbents are not in the race, and the potential for others if any incumbents running in the other wards are unseated.
Challengers are vying to replace McHattie in Ward 1, the late Bernie Morelli in Ward 3, Clark in Ward 9 and Russ Powers, who is retiring, in Ward 13. Each ward has at least six people running, and 15 people want the job in Ward 3.
Whoever wins will officially step into their new jobs at an inaugural meeting on Dec. 3.
CBC Hamilton will bring you live, up to the minute results Monday night. Advance poll results are expected just after 8 p.m., and all the races should be decided by 11 p.m.
We'll be streaming live from the council chambers and provide a steady stream of results online. We'll also do in-the-moment interviews with people such as Rolf Gerstenberger from United Steelworkers Local 1005, community advocate Evelyn Myrie and local transit activist Ryan McGreal.
Our panel throughout the evening will be comprised of McMaster University political scientist Peter Graefe and Jessica Brennan, outgoing public school board chair and long-time political volunteer.
For the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, no incumbent trustees are running in Ward 1 and 2, 3, 6, 7, 9 and 10, 13 and 14, and 15. That's seven of the board's 11 seats.
There will also be at least two new trustees on the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board too. There are no incumbents in Wards 3 and 4 or 6.
Check out "The busy voter's election guide" to find out your ward and your polling place. Polls are open Monday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
