It's that time of the week again – CBC Hamilton reporter Adam Carter is back with his three picks for new Ontario music that you need to listen to this week.
Adam is on the air each week on CBC Radio for In the Key of C, hosted by Craig Norris. He'll choose three Ontario bands or artists that are releasing new music for your listening pleasure.
You can hear Adam during the show every Saturday evening at 5 p.m. on CBC Radio. In the Key of C can be heard across the province, except for the GTA. Hamilton listeners can hear this segment in the audio player above.
Here are this week's picks:
Ambre McLean: Jumpstart
Amber — who was a top eight finalist for CBC's Searchlight music competition in 2013 — is from Guelph, and her new record Me just came out.
The album is a pretty eclectic mix of pop, blues and electronic music elements. This track, Jumpstart, is performed live using what's called "live looping." It's kind of like the evolution of a one man band.
She sings a line or plays a beat, and it gets looped back using a pedal, which creates the sound of an entire band, but coming from just one person. It's trippy and intricate, but fun.
Spencer Burton: Diamond
You might remember Spencer Burton as the guitar player from Attack in Black, who started out playing hardcore but eventually morphed into a lighter rock band.
Spencer is from Welland, and Diamond is off his new album Don't Let the World See Your Love. You can listen to a clip of it in the radio segment in our player at the top of the page.
Now far from his hardcore beginnings, this new record is full of lilting, gentle folk music.
The Glorious Sons: Heavy
The Glorious Sons guys are from Kingston, and they play straight up radio rock with a tinge of southern rock.
Heavy is from their debut album called The Union, which is out now. Anyone who is a fan of modern rock intertwined with a bit of twang would be fans of these guys.
The Glorious Sons are on a Canadian tour with Australian rock giants Airborne right now, making stops in Thunder Bay, Hamilton, Kitchener, Toronto, London, Ottawa and Kingston later this month.
