Police are still investigating how a brutal, three-car collision killed two teens and injured two other people on the Linc Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called about the crash in the westbound lanes of the Linc just after 2 p.m. The collision involved a green Chevy Cavalier, a red GMC Envoy and a black Toyota Echo, police say.

Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning told CBC Hamilton that she still couldn't say what caused the crash. There have been reports that one vehicle crossed into the oncoming lanes, "but they haven't gotten to the point of confirming that," she said.

The 18-year-old male driver and the 19-year-old female passenger of the Cavalier were pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the black Toyota and the female driver of the red GMC were transported to Hamilton General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Linc was closed between Upper James and the 403 in both directions for about eight hours, police say, snarling traffic on many parts of the Mountain. Many people on social media posted about being stuck in traffic for hours while commuting home.

The victim's names aren't being released "at this time" as officers are still working to notify next of kin, police say.

The police reconstruction unit is still investigating and ask any witnesses to call police at 905-546-4753.

These are they city's 9th and 10th traffic fatalities of 2014.
