Statistics Canada's job numbers reveal that 81,000 more Canadians have jobs in August, compared to 12 months earlier, but the gains are "mostly in part-time work."
Monthly job numbers released by Statistics Canada reveal a mixed picture - unemployment is sitting at 7 per cent nationally, while Hamilton's unemployment rate dropped to 6.3 per cent in August from 6.9 per cent in July 2014 .
But across the country, youth and women aged 25 to 54 felt the biggest employment losses. Canadians between 15 and 24 years old have an 13.4 per cent unemployment rate. Women between 24-54 dropped 44,000 jobs between August 2013 and 2014, to 5.6 per cent.
Statistics Canada revealed the job losses were felt in retail, transportation and warehousing, while construction, public administration and scientific jobs were on the rise.
