One million dimes for the Arthritis Society

A seven-year-old boy from Hamilton is trying to raise one million dimes for the Arthritis Society, one lemonade at a time.

Ethan Golden was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis, a condition his brother Jeremiah also experiences. He began raising money for the Walk to Fight Arthritis last year by selling homemade necklaces and cups of lemonade. Now he has set up Ethan's Online Lemonade Stand, trying to raise one million dimes for his cause.

Golden was named a Scotiabank Game Changer, a program that recognizes community heroes. Join Golden on Saturday in the parking lot of Dundurn Park as he receives a $1,000 cheque (and additional dimes) from Scotiabank.

Time: 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014.

Location: Dundurn Park, 600 York Blvd.

Locke Street Festival

Locke Street Festival is back for another year, with vendors, live entertainment and food for the entire family.

In addition to the regular stores on Locke Street, you can also browse through the vendors selling a wide range of arts, crafts and wares. Here's an interactive map showing where the vendors are.

The festival also has a lineup of local artists and entertainers from noon to 9 p.m. Click here for the full list of performance.

If you are driving to the festival, take the Main Street Eastbound or Aberdeen Avenue exit of 403. If you are taking public transportation, HSR Route 7 passes closest to Locke Street on the day of the festival.

Ride Away Stigma

When Danielle Berman was 13 years old, she lost her father Leslie Berman, a physician in Hamilton, to suicide. During her teenage years, she also began her battle with depression.

This summer, on the 15th anniversary of her father's death, she is trying to change the pattern.

Berman began her Ride Away Stigma campaign, a cross-Canada ride aimed to raise awareness and stamp out stigma surrounding mental health, in Vancouver in July.

The ride is raising donations to support St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation, Suicide Prevention Community Council of Hamilton and the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention.

A closing ceremony will be held this Sunday at Dundas Driving Park. For the last leg of the journey, Berman will be accompanied by Hamilton police's downtown cycling division, the Hamilton Fire Department, charities and cyclists from the community.

There are several options you can join Berman for the last leg of her journey, whether you want to ride along or take part in the closing ceremony. Visit Ride Away Stigma's website for details.

Time: Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014.

Location: Dundas Driving Park.
