A search is to resume today for a Burlington man who disappeared while boating on Lake Ontario.

Ivan Batusic, 47, set sail from the Fifty Point Marina near Grimsby on Friday evening, and went missing after intense thunderstorms rolled through the area.

Niagara regional police said a search-and-rescue operation began when he didn't return later that night.

The Canadian Coast Guard conducted a marine search and found Batusic's 10-metre sailboat aground in the area of Jordan Harbour.

Police and the coast guard continued their search throughout Saturday for the missing boater but have yet to find him.

He's described as six feet tall, 300 pounds with short grey and black hair. He has a goatee and was last seen wearing black cargo shorts and blue sandals.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Batusic is asked to contact Det. Const. Make Rees or Det. Const. Martyn Rosborough of the Niagara Regional Police at 905-945-2211 ext. 5420 or via the communications unit at ext. 4320.

The Hamilton Beach Rescue Unit, a volunteer-run marine search and rescue group which is assisting the search, has been sending out updates on the search via Twitter.
