As part of the new CBC Radio show In the Key of C, CBC Hamilton is launching a new weekly feature. Reporter Adam Carter will be on the air every week picking three musical acts that are releasing new music in Ontario that you should listen to.
You can hear Adam during the show every Saturday evening at 6 p.m. on CBC Radio. In the Key of C can be heard across the province, except for the GTA. Hamilton listeners can hear this segment in the audio player.
Here are this week's bands:
The Tallest Tree
The Tallest Tree is an indie rock band based in Dundas, and they've got a new video called I'll be Your (For You).
The duo features Dawn Larsh from Dawn and Marra and Armando Vega from a Mexican band called the Oats. It's actually a cross-continental love story: the two met a couple of years ago when the Oats were playing in Canada, and started dating.
Whenever Larsh visited Mexico City, they would write a new song — forming the roots for the Tallest Tree. Now, they've gotten married and are living in Dundas and writing music together.
Larsh and Vega are multi-instrumentalists and swap what they're playing on their tunes. This song also has that male and female octave lead that bands like Stars do so well. Have a listen to I'll be Your (For You) or their other release, Boat.
Danielle Fricke
London-based songwriter Danielle Fricke has an ambient, electronic sound going for her — it shows shades of Nine Inch Nail's more atmospheric stuff, but with less heavy industrial elements. Fans of Sinead O'Connor would find plenty to like here too.
Her new song — The Well — is pretty minimalist, with just guitar, synths and her voice. But it sounds incredibly full, and her voice is absolutely unreal.
Fricke's full-length album Moon is planned for a fall or winter 2014 release. Until then, check out the video for The Well.
The Tea Party
A decade after their last studio release, Windsor's The Tea Party is back with a new album, The Ocean at the End.
This single — Water's on Fire — is very much a stock Tea Party radio rock song in the vein of Heaven Coming Down, which was arguably their biggest hit.
The band has assured fans that the majority of the record is much more like the older stuff that endeared people to them in the first place though — heavier tunes with lots of multicultural elements.
If you've been clamouring for more Tea Party since 2004's Seven Circles, get ready for The Ocean at the End to drop on Sept. 8.
