Break out the umbrellas and galoshes for Monday night and Tuesday, Hamilton. Wet weather is heading for Southern Ontario, Environment Canada has announced in a special weather statement.

A complex low-pressure system is expected to approach the Great Lakes from the southwest later on Monday. Environment Canada says this system will be slow moving, and take a couple of days to cross Southern Ontario.

Rain is expected to hit much of Southwestern Ontario later Monday, while the bulk of rain expected for the Golden Horseshoe and Central Ontario will come on Tuesday.

Rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are expected in most places with some locally higher amounts possible.

Tonight's forecast in Hamilton calls for cloudy skies, with periods of rain beginning this evening and amounts of 15 to 25 mm expected. There's also a risk of a thunderstorm.

Tuesday's forecast is damp as well: periods of rain with risk of a thunderstorm. Amount 20 mm. Wind south 30 km/h becoming light late in the afternoon. Wind becoming south 20 late in the evening. High 22 C.
