Hamilton's next municipal election isn't until October, but a new initiative is already working on changing the way residents participate in the electoral process by getting them to draft a so-called "People's Platform."
Four regional forums were held across Hamilton over the weekend to allow residents to contribute to the creation of a platform for candidates to potentially adopt.
And more than 250 demonstrators took to the streets in downtown over the weekend to protest the violence in Gaza, as fighting between Israel and Hamas continues after the collapse of a three-day truce.
The march, dubbed as All Out for Gaza, aims to pressure Israel to end the blockage of the coastal territory, organizers said. The group also protested the Harper government's support of Israel and urged the opposition parties to speak up for Palestinians.
