A Hamilton man wanted in a case of child sexual assault turned himself an RCMP detachment in Newfoundland, police say.
Hamilton police issued a media release on Thursday asking for the public's help in the search for John Jesso. The 43-year-old, Hamilton police say, was facing drug charges but failed to show up to a July court date.
After further investigation, police charged Jesso with several sex-related offences.
According to a news release sent out Monday by Hamilton Police, Jesso turned himself in to an RCMP station in Stephenvile, Nfld., on Saturday.
Hamilton police said Jesso's surrender came a day after the RCMP received a tip regarding the man's whereabouts.
Authorities in Hamilton suspected he had fled to Newfoundland, where he has family. He was last seen in Hamilton on Aug. 14 at a Tim Hortons on Queenston Road near Nash Road.
Police said Jesso will be returning to Ontario to face the charges against him.
He stands charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference, as well as two counts of invitation to sexual touching and three counts of indecent exposure.
Jesso and the alleged victims know each other, police say.
