Hamilton is under a severe thunderstorm watch Monday morning.
Thunderstorms are expected early this morning and could stretch into the afternoon, Environment Canada says.
These thunderstorms are capable of producing torrential downpours with local amounts of rain near 50 mm. Frequent lightning will likely happen, too.
Wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h are also possible. Warnings may be issued if required, Environment Canada says.
"Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes," Environment Canada said in a statement. "There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm. In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year."
The rain is expected to end this morning then will be mainly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers. There's also the risk of a thunderstorm late this morning and into this afternoon. Today's high is 27 C.
