Two Hamilton men face second-degree murder charges in connection with a fatal beating in downtown Toronto.
Around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2013, police say, a group of males went to a restaurant on 249 Spadina Ave., in Chinatown, after spending time at a nightclub on Adelaide Street West.
While outside the restaurant, they became involved in a "physical altercation" with another group of males, Toronto police said in a Monday statement.
During the fight, three men were attacked with a baseball bat. One of the victims, 22-year-old Danny La, suffered severe head injuries and died in hospital less than a month later.
Toronto police announced this week that they have made arrests in the beating.
John Pham and Somlack Litthimane — both 24 and from Hamilton — were taken into custody on Thursday. They each face a second-degree murder charge in the case.
The two accused appeared in a north Toronto courtroom on Friday and their next court date has been set for July 29 at Old City Hall.
