A 22-year-old Ancaster man faces a street-racing charge after Hamilton police spotted a vehicle driving 55 km/h over the speed limit at Clappison's Corners.

Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, an officer clocked a car driving 135 km/h in a 80 km/h zone at near the intersection of highways 5 and 6, Hamilton police spokeswoman Debbie McGreal-Dinning said in news release.

Driving southbound on Highway 6, the vehicle made an "aggressive move" to veer from the left lane to the exit ramp to York Road before it was stopped by police, McGreal-Dinning wrote.

Police impounded the car and suspended the driver's licence for seven days.

Under Ontario's street-racing laws, an individual found driving more than 50 km/h can be fined a maximum of $10,000.
