Hamilton police remain on the lookout for a man wanted in a connection with a Saturday child abduction and sexual assault, and are again asking for the public's help in the search.

Authorities received a call around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday to an address on Sanford Avenue where a child had been abducted and sexually assaulted.

Police say the victim and his or her family are now safe, but the suspect is still at large.

On Sunday, Hamilton police Staff Sergeant George Narozniak sent out a media release with a picture of John Adam Greene, whom police have identified as the suspect in the case.

He faces charges of abduction, aggravated sexual assault, sexual interference, assault causing bodily harm and threatening death.

The 29-year-old Hamilton man should be considered dangerous and may be armed, Narozniak said.

He said members of the public should not approach Greene, but asked anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts to call police at 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-522-8477.

On Monday, Staff Sergeant Mike Spencer renewed calls for the public's assistance in locating Greene, who is known to police.

"We want this guy," Spencer said emphatically.

He told CBC Hamilton on Monday he could not provide any "further updates" on the abduction, but said the investigation is in the hands of the police force's child-abuse unit.
