  • More showers and risk of a thunderstorm in the forecast
  • City still collecting downed trees, branches from Dec. ice storm

Do you still have downed trees or brush in your yard from the Dec. 22 ice storm? You can still call the city to get crews to pick up the debris free of charge until Tuesday. In addition, you can take unlimited quantities of the foliage to community recycling centres.

The need to dispose of the fallen trees has turned into a sort of windfall for gardeners and amateur landscapers looking for free wood chips. The city invites residents to pick up the wood chips on a first-come, first-served basis at the following locations until the end of the month:

  • Waterdown Memorial Park , Hamilton Ave
  • Courtcliffe Park, Carlisle Road
  • Ancaster Community Park,  Jerseyville Road W.
  • Valley Park, Paramount Drive
  • Billy Sherring Park, Upper Sherman Ave.
  • Cherry Heights Park, Gateshead Crescent
  • Mark Graham Memorial Olympic Park, Scenic Drive

GO Transit isn't reporting any major delays on its train and bus lines running in and out of Hamilton.

Ontario Provincial Police aren't reporting any collisions on Hamilton-area highways, but they warn of fog cover in many parts of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas. Drive carefully.

It'll be a dreary day in Hamilton, with a 60 per cent chance of rain in the morning. Environment Canada says showers, a risk of a thunderstorm and a high of 21 C are in store for the afternoon. The forecast calls for more showers overnight and a continued risk of thunderstorms.

More rain is on the way for the city on Thursday. Environment Canada calls for clouds and a 40 per cent chance of showers in the morning and then rain beginning near noon. A risk of the thunderstorm is set to creep back in for the afternoon and early evening. A high of 23 C is expected for the day.

City council will vote Wednesday whether to designate King George school as a heritage property — a decision that threatens to waylay plans to build a high school there.

A heritage designation would mean that the board has to preserve any of the elements deemed to be historic at the closed elementary school at 77 Gage Ave. N.

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) plans to tear down King George and nearby Parkview Secondary School, as well as the former Scott Park high school site nearby, to build a new $32-million, 1,250-student high school.

Raise the Hammer editor Ryan McGreal snapped this photo of a Durand neighbourhood magnolia tree that's bursting with colourful blooms.

Talk about inspirational: Ibrahim Elhoseny, an Egyptian man who lost his arms in an accident at the age of 10, is a master table tennis player despite his disability. He holds the paddle in his mouth and spins his entire body to hit shots that go over his head. He recently had the opportunity to play against elite professionals at the ZEN-NOH 2014 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Tokyo earlier this year. Unbelievably, as the following YouTube video shows, he doesn't have much difficulty keeping up. (h/t Huffington Post)
