It's May 1, meaning electricity rates in Ontario are going up.

The cost to keep the lights on is going up by 0.6 cents per kilowatt hour during peak hours to 13.5 cents, according to the Ontario Energy Board.  

Rates during off-peak and mid-peak hours are edging up, too.

So hold that in mind as you keep updated with the latest online news about Rob Ford or the provincial budget (and of course, your local Hamilton stories) on your laptop.

Perhaps, to save money, you'll just have to scroll faster — or just catch up at work. 

GO Transit isn't reporting any major delays on its train and bus lines running in and out of Hamilton.

Ontario Provincial Police are reporting the following collisions on Hamilton-area highways:

  • QEW Fort Erie bound at Ontario St., Grimsby: two-vehicle collision blocking ramp lanes, no injuries, 7:59 a.m.

The lowest gas prices in Hamilton, according to Hamiltongasprices.com, can be found at the Petro-Canada at 914 Upper James St. Regular gas was selling for 127.1 cents per litre overnight. 

According to Environment Canada's forecast for the morning, periods of rain or drizzle will end in the morning and will be followed by a mix of sun and cloud. A 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of 15 C is expected for the rest of the day. Clouds and a 40 per cent chance of rain are in store for the overnight period.

Friday is expected to be another dreary day, with clouds and a 60 per cent chance of rain in the forecast. A high of 12 C is in store.

Prepare for a grey weekend. Clouds and a 40 per cent chance of showers are in the forecast for both days. Environment Canada predicts highs of 11 C and 13 C for Saturday and Sunday, respectively. 

Local transit supporters will watch Thursday's provincial budget with anticipation that it will be a "potential milestone" for light rail transit (LRT) in Hamilton.

Premier Kathleen Wynne's Liberals have said they'll make nearly $29 billion available for transit funding in the coming years, along with other "revenue tools" in Thursday's budget. About $15 billion will be for transit in Toronto and Hamilton.

And McMaster has released the results of an external probe into the Redsuits that was launched in January after university officials were made aware of a songbook containing around 25 offensive cheers. The report says a "dark cloud" surrounds the organization of Welcome Week events for engineers.
