Ontario Provincial Police have charged a McMaster researcher with voyeurism after an alleged incident in Algonquin Park over the Thanksgiving weekend last fall.
The OPP said the incident occurred at Lake of Two Rivers Campground, located just off of Hwy 60, inside the northern Ontario park.
Const. Darcy Nicol, of the OPP's Killaloe detachment, confirmed to CBC Hamilton that a recording device was placed in a communal shower stall at the campground.
"Somebody made a complaint that they'd gone to use shower and found a camera in it," she said, adding that police are still investigating how long the device had been in place.
An extensive investigation was conducted by members of the Renfrew County Crime Unit, Killaloe OPP Detachment, Smith Falls Identification Unit, the Ministry of Natural Resources, McMaster University Security and the assistance of the public.
The OPP was not able to confirm how many victims may be been captured on the camera.
Toran Sanli, 30, of Grimsby is now facing two counts of voyeurism.
A social media account linked to Sanli says he has been a post-doctorate fellow at McMaster since July 2012. Prior to that position he was a teaching assistant at the university for almost three years.
McMaster's Department of Oncology also lists Sanli as currently holding a three-year molecular chemo-prevention fellowship.
The university, citing privacy rules, could not confirm Sanli's employment.
