Police are reminding residents to crime-proof their homes during March break after a slew of break-ins in the rural area of Milton and Halton Hills last week.
Three break-ins occurred in the area on Friday, Feb. 28. The suspect entered the unoccupied homes by forcing his way through a rear door and left with electronics, clothing and personal items, police say.
After spotting a suspicious van in the area, police tried to stop the vehicle, but the suspect drove away. He was later stopped by police near Highway 25 and James Snow Parkway in Milton and arrested.
A 50-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges related to the break-ins and flight from police.
Halton Police is continuing the investigation into these three break-ins and other incidents in the communities of Milton and Halton Hills.

As March break approaches, police are reminding the public to crime-proof their homes while they are away. Here are some tips:
- Whether you go away for a day or week, use automatic timers that turn lights on and off to give your home the appearance of being occupied.
- Leave your travel schedule and phone number with a trusted neighbour or relative so that you may be contacted if necessary.
- Leave a door key and key to your alarm system (if you have one) with a neighbour.
- Have a neighbour pick up newspapers and mail or discontinue all deliveries.
- Arrange to have your lawn mowed or snow shovelled.
- If you have a second car, leave it in your driveway or arrange to have a neighbour park their car in your driveway.
- Check all windows and doors to make sure that they are locked.
- Lock your garage
