Good morning, Hamilton.

The city was spared snow overnight, but wet flurries and freezing rain started just before 6:30 a.m. 

Environment Canada says 10-15 cm of snow, with winds of 40 km/h gusting up to 70 km/h, are in the forecast for Hamilton on Wednesday.

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board has closed its administrative buildings Wednesday due to weather. The Catholic board says facilities remain open on Wednesday. 

Mohawk College has announced it will close all of its campuses for the day at 1 p.m.

McMaster University is closing at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. "all areas and operations not defined as essential are closed," the university said in a news release.

Mac officials say scheduled meetings will not be held, exams slated for Wednesday will be cancelled and rescheduled, and assignments due on Wednesday will be due at the same hour the next day the school is open. 

Redeemer University College, except for its essential services, is set to close at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. 

Ontario Early Years centres in Hamilton are closed on Wednesday. 

The city has cancelled taxi service to the Red Hill Family Centre, but the centre remains open. There are no other city cancellations as of 7:18 a.m.

The Catholic Diocese of Hamilton announced its chancery office is closed on Wednesday. 

Because of the forecast, Hamilton police are asking motorists to drive to the conditions, leave lots of space between vehicles and if possible, leave early to allow for lots of time to get to their destinations. 

Police are reporting the following collisions of Hamilton streets:

  • Gage Avenue North and Beach Road, two-vehicle collision that has since been cleared, 6:30 a.m.

GO Transit says there are no major delays on its Lakeshore West train and bus routes on Wednesday morning. 

The snowfall is expected to continue long into afternoon and end in the evening, with a low of –16 C for overnight.

Calm, but cool conditions are in store for Hamilton on Thursday. Environment Canada predicts a mix of sun and cloud and a high of –8 C for the day.

A bit of melt is possible for Friday, with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 3 C expected for the day.
