A car served as a motorized battering ram in an overnight break-in at a west Hamilton gun shop, police say.

Around 1:10 a.m. on Sunday, a grey compact sedan drove into the front doors of Al Simmons Gun Shop, located on the southwest corner of Locke Street South and Canada Street.

The suspects left the scene before police arrived.

Acting Staff Sgt. Andrew Toms wouldn't confirm whether any merchandise was taken or recovered by police.

"There is no risk to public safety," he told CBC Hamilton on Sunday morning. "You can read into that what you want."

The Hamilton Police Service's Break and Enter, Robbery and Auto Theft unit is investigating the incident, he said.

No arrests have been made in the case.
