A man was sent to hospital early Tuesday after he was stabbed over and over in central Hamilton.

Police were called to an apartment on Grant Avenue by Main and Wentworth Streets around 3 a.m., says Const. Debbie McGreal-Dinning.

There were about five people in the apartment when an altercation broke out in the kitchen between two men who knew each other. "It quickly escalated to one of the men stabbing the other about the body," McGreal-Dinning said. The man was stabbed "several times" in "a number of different places."

A 23-year-old Hamilton man was taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A 32-year-old Hamilton man was arrested for aggravated assault and held for a bail hearing.
