A three-car crash in Hamilton killed two people and sent three more to hospital.
Around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police say, a Honda Accord going northbound on Highway 6 near Chippewa Road crossed the centre line and struck an oncoming pickup truck.
Unable to swerve out of the way, a Chevy Cruz crashed into the rear of the pickup and became wedged underneath the bed of the truck.
Two people, a male driver and a female passenger, died on scene, the OPP said in a statement.
Paramedics transported three other victims to hospital, two in "serious" condition and one with "non-life-threatening injuries," said Mark Tremblay, a spokesperson with the Hamilton Paramedic Service.
Sgt. Dave Woodford, of the OPP's highway safety division, said the victims' names will not be released until their next of kin have been notified.
The coroner, he added, is investigating and will perform an autopsy in the coming days.
Woodford said he doesn't believe alcohol and speed were factors in the fatal collision, but noted the investigation is ongoing.
Police ask anyone with information on the crash to call the OPP's Burlington detachment at 905-681-2511.
