With the Tiger-Cats vying on Sunday for a ticket to the Grey Cup, Hamilton will no doubt be awash in CFL fever this weekend. But for people who haven't caught the football bug — or those looking for a little distraction from the excitement —there are other events on the calendar for Saturday and Sunday.
Here's a list of things to do in Hamilton this weekend.
Hamilton Music Awards
Mohawk College is rolling out the red carpet for the Hamilton Music Awards this weekend. The itinerary features a rising star competition, an industry conference and will culminate on Sunday with the main awards ceremony. The show will feature performances by Hamilton blues singer Harrison Kennedy and folk duo Dawn and Marra.
The Sunday ceremony at Mohawk's McIntyre Theatre (135 Fennell Ave. W) starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35.50 and are available online at Ticketmaster.ca, by phone at 1-855-872-5000, or in person at Dr. Disc (20 Wilson St.) and Picks and Sticks (140 Locke St. S).

Hamilton Santa Claus Parade
The city will break out the holiday cheer for the Hamilton Santa Claus Parade on Saturday afternoon. Starting at 2 p.m., festive floats will weave through the downtown core.
The parade will start at the intersection of Main Street West at Queen. Floats will then head east on Main Street, veer north on John Street, turn back west on King Street, and finally go north on Bay Street. The procession will conclude at Cannon Street, near Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School.
The city says to expect road closures in those areas between 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. The HSR will be running detours during that period.

The Christmas Show
The parade isn't the only holiday-themed happening running this weekend. The Careport Centre (270 Longwood Rd. S) is hosting The Christmas Show, an exhibition featuring food, fashion and decor from more than 100 retailers.
The show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5, but children 12 and younger get in for free.

Hamilton Youth Philharmonic Youth Orchestra concert
The Hamilton Youth Philharmonic Orchestra kicks off its 50th-anniversary season on Saturday night. The group, featuring area instrumentalists age 24 and under, is performing at Centenary United Church (24 Main St. W) on Saturday night.
The evening's program will feature selections with "a vibrant Spanish flair" and "pieces steeped in exotic rhythms," said Colin Clarke, the orchestra's music director, in a recent press release.
The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door and cost $25 each for adults, $20 for seniors, $15 for students and $10 for children under 12.

An Evening with Lucky Jim Lacroix
The Hamilton run of the latest offering from local playwright and provocateur Sky Gilbert wraps up this weekend. Performing at Artword Artbar on Saturday and Sunday, the dark comedy An Evening with Lucky Jim Lacroix "is an up close and personal conversation with contract killer Lucky Jim (Jason Cadieux) who has agreed to give a talk at a local community centre in the hopes of earning brownie points for his upcoming parole hearing," according to the venue's website.
As with all Sky Gilbert's works, expect Lucky Jim to be political, irreverent, sexual and rife with language that some may find offensive. Consider yourself warned.
Saturday's show starts at 8 p.m., while the Sunday performance is a 2 p.m. matinee.
Tickets for the Saturday's show cost $15 at the door. Sunday's finale is pay-what-you-can.
