A 42-year-old Toronto woman died Sunday after she fell from a 20-metre cliff while posing for a photograph at the Mount Nemo Conservation Area in Burlington, Ont.
"Unfortunately the victim lost her balance as she was sitting at the edge of the cliff to get a photograph of the escarpment behind her," said Halton Regional Police Staff Sgt. Brett Wilkinson.
Police received a 911 call just after 1 p.m. It took rescue crews more than an hour to reach the woman as they made their way over rough terrain down the steep cliff.
The woman was breathing when rescue crews reached her, but she died shortly after.
A number of people at the scene worked to assist rescue crews, including a doctor and an off-duty firefighter.
In May of last year, the same crew involved in Sunday's rescue had to scale down the same cliff to rescue a fallen hiker.
Dominic Wojtarowics regularly hikes at Mt. Nemo with his family.
"This trail is pretty simple but the rocks on the escarpment are pretty slippery at times," he told CBC News.
