African Lion Safari is ready to share its new, 309-lb. bundle of joy with the world.

Nellie, a female Asian elephant, was born in the park on Aug. 2, said Charlie Gray, superintendent of elephants at African Lion Safari.

She's the 14th elephant born at African Lion Safari, located just outside Hamilton, Ont., and the first "all-Canadian" elephant — both of her parents were also born at the park, Gray said.

CBC Hamilton had a chance to meet Nellie, along with mother Natasha and grandmother Kitty (who also lives at the park) on Friday. Check out the video above to see what the encounter was like.
