A fire at an east Hamilton house killed a pet rabbit and caused $150,000 in damage on Thursday.
Around 11:15 p.m, the Hamilton Fire Department received a call about flames streaming from the basement of a home on Beechwood Avenue just west of Barnesdale.
"When [crews] first rolled up, the fire was coming up the basement window. It was really rolling," said Claudio Mostacci, a spokesperson for the Hamilton Fire Department.
Two residents of the house were found outside. Neither had sustained injuries, but their pet rabbit didn't survive, Mostacci confirmed.
Firefighters knocked down the flames in about 25 minutes, he said.
The fire was mostly contained to the basement, but "it did make it through the first floor," Mostacci said, adding there was smoke damage to the entire house.
