Friday marks the first day of the Festival of Friends, one of Hamilton's biggest music festivals. Here are eight things to keep and mind as you make your way to the Ancaster Fairgrounds.
The lineup
This year's Festival of Friends includes rock acts like Airbourne (the second coming of AC/DC) and Theory of a Deadman, as well as Chubby Checker (go ahead, twist again) and pop act Dragonette.
There are lots of other acts and local artists playing too. You can check out the full Festival of Friends schedule here.
Where is it?
The festival happens at the Ancaster Fairgrounds, at 630 Trinity Rd S, just off of Wilson Street. No, it isn't back at Gage Park.
Start and end times
The park opens on Friday at 2 p.m., and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The park gates shut at midnight each night.
Cost
It's free — though you'll want to bring some cash for food, or if you have a burning desire to take a pony ride.
But what about parking?
Yup, you have to pay for parking. The pass is $10, and covers you for all three days.
Buses from downtown
There's express shuttle service to and from the fairgrounds this weekend, leaving from King Street opposite the MacNab bus terminal.
Service begins at Friday at 4:30 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m., with buses leaving every 15 minutes, starting at the top of the hour. On Saturday and Sunday the first shuttle leaves at 11:30 a.m.
Conversely, buses are leaving the fairgrounds to head back downtown every fifteen minutes starting five minutes past the hour. The last bus leaving the festival each night is 11:35 p.m. Regular HSR fares apply.
Rain or shine
As anyone who went to last year's Festival of Friends (when it poured nearly the entire weekend) knows, the festival goes ahead no matter what. Mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the low 20s are in the forecast all weekend this time though.
Is it seated?
Think of the Ancaster Fairgrounds as one giant lawn — so if you want to sit, bring a chair.
How to get around
Here's a map of the Fairgrounds for when you're searching for the beer garden or the main stage:
