Hamilton's economy received some good news on the job front, as the unemployment rate decreased to 6.2 percent in June from 6.9 per cent in May.
Statistics Canada released the numbers for the national employment rate Friday.
The national unemployment rate remained steady at 7.1 per cent, as Canada's economy shed only 400 jobs in June, a statistically insignificant number.
Some economists had expected that up to 12,500 jobs would be lost in June after the spike in hiring in May, when 95,000 new jobs were added.
The details are less rosy, though. Full-time employment fell by 32,400 in June while part-time work increased by an almost equal amount.
