A 16-year-old Hamilton teen suffered minor injuries in a pellet gun shooting in Hamilton 's east end on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m, two teens were walking near the intersection of Orphir Road and Gailmont Drive, when an SUV pulled up beside them. According to police, one of the passengers leaned out a window, asking one of the teens if he could borrow a cell phone to make a call.

The 16-year-old male obliged and gave the phone to the man in the vehicle. The passenger then pulled out a pellet gun and shot the teen in the chest. The vehicle, described as a red, older model Jeep with black trim, sped away from the scene, making off with the teen's black iPhone 4S.

The teens immediately went home to call police.

Police say the vehicle involved in the incident contained multiple occupants in addition to the driver. The shooting suspect is described as a tall male, with a thin, athletic build, short brown hair, wearing a light-colored tank top and a Snap Back hat.

Division Two detectives continue to investigate.
